He launched the university’s first semester‑long events calendar, stepped in repeatedly to keep student programs running, secured multiple top‑ranked PIF grants, and led major accreditation efforts as a primary writer, editor, and Co‑Chair. He founded the Leadership Institute, created the co‑curricular transcript, authored successful grants—including a $40,000 dual‑enrollment award—and helped deliver six virtual commencement ceremonies during COVID.  Across three decades, Bruce’s achievements shaped the student experience, strengthened institutional excellence, and left a legacy that will continue to guide Salem State for years to come. The Salem Community Band In the summer of 2025, the Salem Community Band found a new home and continues its longstanding traditions by presenting both summer and winter concerts on the beautiful campus of Salem State University.  From the beginning, participation in the Salem Community Band—and admission to its concerts—has always been free and open to everyone, regardless of age, ability, or experience. It is our hope that the creation of an endowment for the Salem Community Band will ensure that musicians and audiences alike can continue to experience the joy, camaraderie, and sense of community that have defined the band from its earliest days. We are excited and deeply hopeful for the future of this special organization. The roots of what would become the Salem Community Band date back to the summer of 1999, when Salem High School Band Director and PreK–12 Coordinator of Music Cynthia Napierkowski brought together a group of local adults and students to march in the Salem Heritage Days Parade.  Nearly a decade later, in 2008, Cynthia and several musician friends—who were then traveling out of town to participate in a community band—recognized a clear unmet need in the greater Salem area. With strong support from Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll, Salem Public Schools Assistant Superintendent Alyce Davis, and Superintendent Dr. William Cameron, the concert band version of the Salem Community Band was officially formed. The group’s first performance, held in August at the Salem Willows, proudly served as the opening act for Salem’s Heritage Days celebration. Momentum quickly followed. A Winter Concert was added the following year, and in 2010 the Salem Community Jazz Band debuted. Over the years, the Salem Community Band has welcomed between 60 and 100 musicians per concert, bringing together middle school students and lifelong musicians spanning multiple generations, and representing communities across the North Shore and beyond.

LASO is a group of students that aims to create an inclusive environment for all students and to spread the appreciation and diversity of the Hispanic/Latinx culture. A weeklong festival each April to consider the state of our planet. Earth Days Committee <strong>Earth Days 2026 – Climate Crisis: Actions for a Just and Livable World</strong> <strong>April 5-11th, 2026</strong> Ecosystems on Earth—ranging from the forests of New England and the Great Lakes to the Great Barrier Reef and the Arctic tundra—are home to countless organisms that inspire awe and wonder. These ecosystems perform essential functions that benefit both humans and other living organisms, including improving air quality, pollination, nutrient cycling, food and medicine production, flood prevention, and recreation. A key factor in maintaining a healthy ecosystem is preserving <strong><em>biodiversity</em></strong>, which encompasses species diversity, genetic variation within species, and the variety of landscapes within an ecosystem. However, <strong><em>climate change</em></strong> and its wide-ranging effects are reshaping ecosystems, altering species abundance and diversity, and disrupting the critical functions these organisms provide. In 2026, the Salem State Earth Days week aims to highlight this issue within the theme of: <strong><em>Climate Crisis: Actions for a Just and Livable World.</em></strong> <em>Earth Days 2026 will be a week where the broader Salem State Community can unify to achieve a better understanding of how we can all contribute to slowing the advance of climate change and managing the impacts that are already occurring through measures focused on resiliency. </em>   <strong>The Rationale for Earth Days 2026: What Must We Do?</strong> The purpose of Earth Days 2026 is to engage the Salem State Community (faculty, students, administrators, staff, and alumni) and the larger North Shore Community to expand our awareness of the impending situation and help us consider what we can do. We sincerely encourage individual students and student groups to ‘make their voice heard' by collaborating with each other and their professors in arranging events/activities.  <strong>We greatly appreciate any donation that can help us hold this event!</strong>

He was a loving husband of 52 years, father of four, grandfather to 9, brother to 11, and cousin, uncle, great-uncle, and dear friend to too many to count. Tom was born in Cambridge, MA, on November 19, 1945, and grew up in a large Irish-American family in Melrose, MA. In 1968, he married the love of his life, Joan (Sullivan), one of nine children from a family across town. Tom graduated from Melrose High School in 1963, received his Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Salem State College in 1968, his Master's of Business Administration from Babson College in 1971, and his Master's of Science in Taxation from Bentley College in 1982. Tom was elected to the Melrose Board of Alderman from 1974-78 and served as President from 1977-78. In 1978, Tom and Joan moved to Andover, MA to raise their family. Over the last 15 years he and Joan have divided their time between Andover, Kennebunk, ME, and Sanibel, FL. Tom was a fixture in the Boston business and political community. In 1974, he started the Boston-based accounting firm Feeley & Driscoll, P.C., which he grew into one of the largest and most recognized CPA firms in Massachusetts before retiring in 2016. He was the President of the Massachusetts Society of CPAs from 1985-86 and was on the Board of Directors for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants from 1990-1994. Tom volunteered for Mike Dukakis' first gubernatorial race in 1972 and continued to work with and advise local and national politicians for the remainder of his life. Those who knew Tom were struck by his genuine affection and his generosity with time and attention. His mix of business sense, street smarts, no nonsense communication, good humor, and empathy made him a natural mentor and confidant to people from all walks of life, including senators, CEOs, mom-and-pop business owners, recent college graduates, and the musicians at the local pub. His motivation was always selfless-he simply liked to see people succeed. Tom raised money, volunteered time, and made numerous philanthropic donations to charitable organizations including food banks, affordable housing groups, medical research and treatment centers, after school programs, and higher education.Tom was a voracious reader, a political junkie, and a die-hard sports fan. He loved his broad circle of friends, Irish music, spirited conversation, golfing, and taking his grandkids out to breakfast. He was a warm and generous spirit, and he will be missed. Tom is survived by his wife, Joan; children, Kelly Feeley of Boston, MA, Dan and Molly Feeley of Andover, MA, Tom Feeley and Alexis Sullivan of Topsham, ME, and Jon Feeley and Jenny Lupica of South Portland, ME; grandchildren, Hannah and Maddie Pogoda, and Maeve, Sam, Clementine, James, Ben, Maggie, and Cam Feeley. He was the son of the late Francis X. and Alice (Ahern) Feeley; the sibling of Alice and the late Herb Carney, Carol and the late George Lee, the late Rose and Paul McDonald, the late Francis Feeley, Jeremiah and Mary Jane Feeley, Catherine and Larry Dennison, Mary and Paul Downing, Susan Mullens and the late Charles Feeley, Nancy and the late Paul Feeley, Maureen and Jack Woods, and David and Karen Feeley.Due to gathering restrictions, the Funeral Services and Burial will be a private, and the family will host a Celebration of his Life later this year. Support student travel to study media, culture and politics in Poland and Czechia MCO 508 <strong>Updated Description and Request for Additional Support, March 19, 2025:</strong> Thanks to the generosity of our donors, our student travelers' travel costs have been significantly reduced! These funds mean a lot to us, and we are grateful for your support. Now, however, a key attraction we planned to visit -- Radio Free Europe -- is unavailable: Radio Free Europe has been <strong>defunded</strong> by the U.S. Federal Government, and is at risk of closing entirely. Tours are now suspended.  Visiting Radio Free Europe has always been free to school groups. To replace this tour with something pedagogically equivalent will cost our group several hundred dollars -- but our students have already been billed in full and paid their travel costs.  In other words, all funds are already spoken for -- so, we have reopened the crowdfunding campaign. <strong>But, you can make a difference! </strong>With your support, we can ensure that our students have a full and enriching experience in which they gain direct experience with Prague's media and history. Thank you for your support. - Professor Rebecca Hains --- <strong>Original Description: Learning in Krakow and Prague: Media, Culture, and Politics</strong> In Spring 2025, the Media & Communication Department is offering its first-ever faculty-led travel-study course, with visits to the cities of Kraków and Prague spanning May 19 to May 29. Open to all students across the university, in this class, students will gain first-hand experience with the media, culture, politics, and history of Poland and Czechia.  Your tax-deductible gift will help remove financial barriers to travel for our students. By making the trip more affordable, you will meaningfully support student access to this unique, transformative educational experience.   During the trip, our students’ professional and cultural experiences will include:<ul><li>connecting with journalists at Radio Free Europe, where more than 700 full-time journalists and 1300 freelancers report the news in 23 countries; </li><li>visits with peers and communication faculty at Charles University in Prague and the Jagiellonian University in Kraków – both storied medieval universities that are top-ranked in their respective nations;</li><li>an exploration of international media history at sites such as Prague’s Mucha Museum, dedicated to the works of internationally renowned advertising history icon Alphonse Mucha;</li><li>a richer understanding of both countries’ history, including their Nazi and communist occupations and the role of media in the people’s resistance to these regimes.</li></ul> We have worked hard to make this trip as affordable as possible, but the cost for this 10-day trip is still approximately $3,250 per student for 10 days.   Please consider donating to make this experience possible for our deserving students. Softball Team The Salem State Softball program is a NCAA Division III team that competes in the Massachusetts State Athletic Conference (MASCAC). Every year, we are tasked with fundraising for our Spring Training Trip to Florida which provides our student- athletes an opportunity to compete at the highest level to prepare for our season. We are also tasked with fundraising for program operations in multiple areas: equipment needs, travel expenses, and field/ facility repairs.<ul><li>Donations towards our Spring Break trip help support our team's meal, travel, hotel stay, and tournament expenses.</li><li>Donations towards equipment include new team bats, practice balls, training equipment, and new technology.</li><li>Donations towards our field/ facility repairs will help replace the decals above our dug out awnings, the matting for our back stop, a new outfield fencing system and tarp.</li></ul> <strong>We have been so fortunate for the financial support of our friends, families, alumni, and community partners in the past and we hope you will consider donating again this year. Do you sometimes worry about how you will afford basic necessities?  Too many college students are struggling financially across the country, including by being food and housing insecure --Salem State is no exception.  Our campaign is raising money for the campus <strong>Student Emergency Fund</strong>. Since its creation during the pandemic, the fund has helped hundreds of hard-working Vikings facing unexpected medical expenses, housing and food insecurity, or who were unable to pay for basic school supplies.   When students don’t have to worry about finances, they can focus on their education.  <strong>Help us reach our goal!</strong><strong> </strong>

FYS on Poverty & Philanthropy At Salem State University, we pride ourselves on making sure our students do not go hungry! Since 2018, the campus food pantry (located in the Ellison Campus Center) has provided students with non-perishable food items, toiletries, and feminine hygiene products.  The pantry has typically served between 30 and 50 students per month, but the managing staff has seen a sharp increase since September 2023 --to about 70 users per month.  We need your support to keep the pantry well-stocked! 100% of the donations we receive from this campaign will go directly to the pantry. <strong>Help us reach our goal! </strong>

The Sam Cioffi Student-Athlete Wellness fund will provide support and programming to Viking Student-Athletes in areas of mental and physical wellness.
The Sam Cioffi Student-Athlete Wellness fund will provide support and programming to Viking Student-Athletes in areas of mental and physical wellness. HONORING SAM CIOFFI, 9/14/99-5/1/22 Sam Cioffi was a Salem State student-athlete and a proud member of the Vikings men’s lacrosse team. Although his time at Salem State was brief, his impact was immediate and lasting as he set the single game and season scoring record in 2022 and was named  honorable mention for the LEC conference team. Sam was also the 2022 recipient for the Salem State VeSPY award for record breaking season. Sam was a popular and well known student-athlete among the local sports community and across the north shore as he was a D1 commit for lacrosse his freshman year of high school. Despite these successes, Sam also faced struggles with his mental health and drug addiction. Although Sam had turned things around while at Salem State, his life ended after taking a pill that was laced with fentanyl after celebrating his final game and breaking the record. Fentanyl has been the number one killer for ages 18-45 the last two years. The Cioffi family wishes to honor Sam’s memory by raising funds for a student-athlete wellness center named in his memory to continue his legacy and share his story to help others. Today’s collegiate student-athletes are at an increased risk of mental health concerns as they balance the academic, social, and financial challenges of college with the additional pressures to perform on the field. The Cioffi Student-Athlete Wellness fund will enhance and elevate the student-athlete experience through supporting them in these areas and providing student-athletes with resources and lifeskill development to help them navigate the demands and opportunities they encounter as a Viking. Programming will include speakers, workshops, individual and team sessions, and on-line educational tools in the areas of mental and physical wellness, academic and athletic excellence, and personal and career development. Sam was proud of his tattoo that said “let them know you passed this way once”. By giving to this campaign you will help us honor that motto and his memory while supporting all that come after him and represent Salem State University in their athletic and academic pursuits. Help send a political science student to intern in Congress in Washington, D.C. with a U.S. Senator or Representative Salem State’s Congressional Internship Program is turning 20! Thanks to the generous support of donors nearly 30 of our political science students have worked as summer interns in Washington, D.C. for U.S. Senators, Representatives, Congressional Committees and Congressional Caucuses over the past two decades.  These opportunities have increased their knowledge of policy issues and allowed them to network with other students, faculty and policy professionals. Former interns have gone on to elected office, Fulbright Scholarships, law school, graduate school, jobs on Capitol Hill and Beacon Hill, and many other significant achievements. Congressional interns have enriched our student body as they share their experiences in class discussions and with the larger campus community upon their return to Salem.  In 2020, we named the Congressional Internship Program in honor of retiring Professor Rich Levy in recognition of his long-standing contributions to our internship program. SSU Veterans' Affairs The Veterans' Second Mission Fund has been established through the generosity of donors Neal DeChillo, PhD and Mary H. DeChillo, MSW. The fund will provide financial support to the Veterans' Affairs Office and its mission to enhance the educational experience of student veterans at Salem State. With a focus on individualized student attention, our veterans' affairs staff assists current and former members of the armed forces, as well as survivors and dependents, access both state and federal education benefit programs. Consistently cited as a military-friendly school, we will continue to welcome America’s veterans to our campus, for time and again they reward us for our efforts on their behalf through their accomplishments in the classroom and beyond. Salem State values our veteran students and their families and is dedicated to providing resources and services to assist them in achieving their academic and career goals. FYS on Poverty & Philanthropy Given the hardships of the past year and a half, many college students and families are struggling financially. Salem State's Food Pantry is in need of new donations to provide for students who may be experiencing food insecurity.  Students in the First Year Seminar on Poverty & Philanthropy are once again raising funds to keep the food pantry well stocked. The pantry provides non-perishable food items, toiletries, and famine hygiene products. A 2018 study revealed that 38% of Salem State students are food insecure.  100% of the donations we receive from this campaign will go directly to the SSU pantry.   Help us reach our goal!

First Year Seminar on Poverty Too many college students are struggling financially across the country and Salem State is no exception.  Our campaign is raising money for the campus <strong>Student Emergency Fund</strong>, which started assisting students in need during the pandemic. By having the appropriate attire and professional accessories, students will make a lasting impression at networking events and job interviews so that they shine and stand out from the competition. <strong>Help us support our Vikings as they achieve their professional aspirations!</strong>   Career Services is gearing up to host a series of Dress for Success initiatives to support our Vikings. During the Spring 2023 semester, we will host our annual 2-day Career Closet event where all students are encouraged to choose professional dress items from the Career Closet at no cost to them. In addition, we will award selected applicants a professional attire stipend to purchase career-ready attire. The goal is to help our students prepare for the Job & Internship Fair and interview process.    <strong>We have set a fundraising goal of $750 to not only kickstart these initiatives, but also to build a foundation for future career readiness and dress for success programming.</strong>   Every dollar counts.
