Earth Days 2026 – Climate Crisis: Actions for a Just and Livable World
April 5-11th, 2026
Ecosystems on Earth—ranging from the forests of New England and the Great Lakes to the Great Barrier Reef and the Arctic tundra—are home to countless organisms that inspire awe and wonder. These ecosystems perform essential functions that benefit both humans and other living organisms, including improving air quality, pollination, nutrient cycling, food and medicine production, flood prevention, and recreation. A key factor in maintaining a healthy ecosystem is preserving biodiversity, which encompasses species diversity, genetic variation within species, and the variety of landscapes within an ecosystem. However, climate change and its wide-ranging effects are reshaping ecosystems, altering species abundance and diversity, and disrupting the critical functions these organisms provide. In 2026, the Salem State Earth Days week aims to highlight this issue within the theme of: Climate Crisis: Actions for a Just and Livable World.
Earth Days 2026 will be a week where the broader Salem State Community can unify to achieve a better understanding of how we can all contribute to slowing the advance of climate change and managing the impacts that are already occurring through measures focused on resiliency.
The Rationale for Earth Days 2026: What Must We Do? The purpose of Earth Days 2026 is to engage the Salem State Community (faculty, students, administrators, staff, and alumni) and the larger North Shore Community to expand our awareness of the impending situation and help us consider what we can do. We sincerely encourage individual students and student groups to ‘make their voice heard' by collaborating with each other and their professors in arranging events/activities.
