“I work with young people and I’m in the hope manufacturing business. My job is to hold hope in places where hope has long since ceased to exist.”
Dr. Kenneth V. Hardy, YAR 2017 Keynote speaker

Who and What
Youth at Risk (YAR) conference is the region’s only annual all-day conference for professionals who work with at-risk youth. The event features over 30 workshops, as well as keynote speakers, program exhibitions and networking opportunities. Continuing education credits are awarded in the following: EEC, CAFL, LMFT, LMHC, NASW, NLN.
The Essex County Community Foundation established the YAR conference in 2000 as a response to the need for increased collaboration and coordination among the many providers of services to at-risk youth in and around Essex County. As of 2015, Salem State has taken over the program and pledges to carry on the YAR mission of trainings and outreach. The conference remains an amazing opportunity to tap the wealth of expertise in Essex County on the topic of youth at risk. It continues to be a one-of-a-kind and most anticipated annual event.
YAR Mission
The Youth at Risk mission is to support communities of professionals serving children, youth, and families and to provide them with affordable continuing education and collaborative networking opportunities.
Youth at Risk offers CEUs to all attendees and the cost of these are not included in the registration fee. Your donation of $10 will help us to continue to offer CEUs at no cost to the attendee and allow us to attract a diverse audience through the CEU offerings (NLN, EEC, NASW, LMHC, LMFT, CPCS).
Self Care is an important practice for professionals serving youth at risk. Your donation of $25 will help us to continue to offer self care training to the community by hearing local young artists, being provided with meals and refreshments throughout the day, and being surrounded by professionals all committed to the same mission.
Collaborative networking is an important tool in this field. Your gift of $50 will help to support future networking opportunities by allowing us to offer non-profit organizations a free avenue to share about their resources and programming in our Exhibition Hall. The information sharing directly supports the children and families we serve.
Youth at Risk is the only conference of its kind in the Northeast United States. It is our goal to keep the costs of the conference low in order to make it accessible to hardworking professionals. As with most events, the registration fee is lower than the actual cost per person. Your donation of $100 will help us to continue to support professionals serving the Youth at Risk of Massachusetts.
