National Young Feminist Leadership Conference

The Women’s Center, NARAL chapter, Pre-Law Society and Political Science Academy are working to bring 20 Salem State University students to the National Young Feminist Leadership Conference, which takes place from March 25-27, 2017 in Arlington, VA. Sponsored by the Feminist Majority Foundation, the National Young Feminist Leadership Conference includes two days of plenary sessions and panels on economic justice, reproductive justice, eco-feminism, intersectionality and identity-based activism, violence against women, immigrant rights, and global women’s rights and health. The conference will include speeches by national women’s rights and civil rights leaders, along with leadership development workshops including coalition-building, social media, organizing on campus, advocacy and running for campus office. The Congressional Visit Day on the third day provides students with the opportunity to meet members of Congress and legislative staff. (The photo above shows the 2016 Salem State University delegation meeting with Senator Edward Markey.)

This educational event will make important contributions to the lives of students who participate in the delegation and to the larger Salem State community. The conference will provide an opportunity for participants to increase their knowledge about public policy and legal issues related to women and gender, gain leadership skills, and make important contacts for internships and careers. Through skill development and networking, students will return to campus better prepared to organize and participate in campus and civic engagement activities related to women, gender, law and social justice. We expect that students who attend the conference also will infuse campus organizations with new energy and that the experiences gained at this conference will be essential to building the leaders of the organizations at our campus.

Your help in providing this leadership opportunity for our students would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
