Please join us in supporting Carol Zoppel’s legacy by enabling robust Earth Days programming in her memory.
Salem State University Librarian Carol Zoppel was a treasured member of the Earth Days Planning Committee and a deeply valued, dedicated Salem State University Librarian. To honor her memory, we are seeking donations to support Salem State’s annual Earth Days celebrations, a cause Carol was passionate about and supported through her leadership, service, and contributions of time and energy over more than a decade. Donations in her honor will enable us to fund lectures and related activities in her name and continue her legacy of spreading knowledge and sparking curiosity and conversation about the climate emergency.
Salem State’s annual Earth Days celebration encompasses a judged research poster competition, an art exhibition and competition, and a series of lectures, panels, films and activities. These events bring renowned researchers, activists and officials to campus to engage students, faculty, staff, alumni and the larger community. View a summary of the April 2022 celebration.
Our theme for the past two years has been “Climate Crises: Actions for a Just and Livable World.” Throughout their lifetimes, our students will experience a changing planet and witness difficult debates about societal restructuring. Earth Days is one of many facets of Salem State’s mission to prepare our students to be future leaders in addressing the defining crises facing the planet.
