Lambda Pi Eta Communications Honor Society

This project will raise funds for the Salem State University chapter of the Lambda Pi Eta Communications National Honor Society, Sigma Omega. With these funds students will be able to hold or sponsor department and university activities like professional panels, conferences, and social events. Also, we will be initiating a scholarship fund for Lambda Pi Eta-eligible students who cannot pay membership fees due to economic hardship.

Why Your Support Matters

Unfortunately, because Lambda Pi Eta is a student organization based on merit and is not open to all university students, the organization is ineligible to receive university funding for student groups through the Student Government Association. Due to a lack of secure funding, the group has been unable to partake in professional opportunities like speaker panels and the annual National Communication Association conference. With your help our honor students can maximize their college experience by extending their learning outside the classroom through these invaluable professional networking opportunities.

About Lambda Pi Eta

Lambda Pi Eta (LPH) has over 400 active chapters at four-year colleges and universities worldwide. LPH was founded in 1985 at the University of Arkansas. It became a part of the National Communication Association in 1988 and the association’s official honor society in July 1995.

LPH is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS), whose mission is to build a visibly cohesive community of national and international honor societies, individually and collaboratively exhibiting excellence in scholarship, service, programs, and governance.

To be eligible to join the Salem State University chapter of Lambda Pi Eta, Sigma Omega, students must major in communications and have earned a minimum of 60 total credits and 12 communication credits, with a minimum of a 3.125 overall GPA and a 3.25 GPA in the major. The communications department invites eligible students to join on an annual basis.

The Six Goals of Lambda Pi Eta:

  1. Recognize, foster, and reward outstanding scholastic achievement in communication studies;
  2. Stimulate interest in the field of communication;
  3. Promote and encourage professional development among communication majors;
  4. Provide an opportunity to discuss and exchange ideas in the field of communication;
  5. Establish and maintain closer relationships between faculty and students; and
  6. Explore options for graduate education in communication studies.
