National Young Feminist Leadership Conference 2019

The Florence Luscomb Women’s Center at Salem State is working to bring 10 students to the National Young Feminist Leadership Conference, which will take place March 9-11, 2019 in Arlington, Virginia. This educational opportunity makes a big impact in the lives of students who participate in the delegation and in the larger Salem State community. The conference provides an opportunity for participants to increase their knowledge about public policy and legal issues related to women and gender, gain leadership skills, and make important contacts for future internships and careers. Through skill-building and networking, students return to campus better prepared to organize and participate in campus and civic engagement activities related to women, gender, law, and social justice. Students who attend the conference are expected to infuse their campus organizations with new energy, and the experiences gained at this conference are essential to building informed and motivated student leaders at Salem State.

Sponsored by the Feminist Majority Foundation, the National Young Feminist Leadership Conference includes two days of plenary sessions and panels on economic justice, reproductive justice, eco-feminism, intersectionality and identity-based activism, violence against women, immigrant rights, and global women’s rights and health. The conference includes talks by national women’s rights and civil rights leaders, along with leadership development workshops around coalition-building, social media, organizing on campus, advocacy, and running for campus office. The third day of the conference is Congressional Visit Day, during which students meet members of Congress and legislative staff.
