#SALEMSTATEGIVES
This crowdfunding project has been created to fund what could be a transformative event for my college students who have high hopes of landing a job in the communications industry. The funds will pay for the Cavalier Coach bus to take 25 students from the Salem State University campus to Matter Communications in Newburyport, MA. These students do not all have reliable transportation. Two alums of the university invited my class to see the Real World of Communications.
Nothing but nothing is more inspiring and motivating to students than seeing that what they've been learning from a book and in the classroom is truly real. Nothing is more compelling to students than to see that students who graduated just a couple of years ago have landed successfully in a job -- a career! -- that they went to college to do. For my class of communications hopefuls, no teacher, no college professor -- and no, not me -- is more powerful and believable than a face-to-face experience with other students, just like them, who have made it.
My students attend our public university. Many of them are first-generation. My university is the most diverse and inclusive of any of its peer institutions in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. I want nothing more than for these students to get an equal shot at what they want. In my 30 years as a teacher, I've found that nothing is more educational than real-world experience. That's what I am asking you to help fund. Help make aspirations feel achievable.
